MARCIE AND THE COOKIES In 1967, Melbourne singer Marcie Jones, who was already well known throughout Australia as a solo singer, went to Brisbane to do a television show. It was there she met the three sisters; Margaret, Wendy and Beverley Cook, performing as 'The Cookies'. The girls decided to team up, and one year later Marcie and The Cookies were awarded the critics award for the top Australian vocal act. The national pop newspaper Go-Set awarded them the best female act award for 1968. In just 12 months they had established themselves as popular performers throughout the country, plus gaining a huge following on the cabaret circuit, and the pop scene with their hit records including 'I Would If I Could'. After touring Australia with The Monkees during 1968, the girls headed overseas. First was a six month tour of South East Asia performing in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Bangkok and the Philippines which included performances at American bases to servicemen on R & R from the Vietnam war. They then travelled to England and Europe where they toured for three years. During this time Marcie and The Cookies worked as support act and provided backing vocals for Cliff Richard. Marcie and The Cookies are vibrant on stage. The combination of the zany personalities and wonderful harmonies of Margaret, Wendy and Beverley plus the powerful lead vocals of Marcie provides a unique sound, mixing sixties and soul, ballads and rock. They are one of the world's best singing groups. After over thirty years at the entertainment pinnacle, Marcie Jones and The Cookies maintain the magic of working live together with audiences adoring and encoring at every performance.
